Issues Ronggui Chamber of Commerce hosted a briefing on Private
Wealth – U.S. Global Taxation and Immigration Issues. Following
the opening remarks by AmCham President Harley Seyedin, three
leading U.S. tax and immigration attorneys examined the tax issues
affected by immigration and the citizenship status of U.S. residents
and nonresidents. Among the issues explored were: how tax and
other benefits are affected by a person’s status, whether he/she is
immigrating to the US, renouncing US citizenship, or what visa
category he/she holds in the US. For those who have ties to both China
and the US, this briefing was extremely informative in relation to the
impact of FATCA (the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act).
