than we thought we did, including some mutual friends.
The next day, we spoke again and set a time to meet at a
coffee shop in Tianhe with our said mutual friends. We
sat across each other that entire evening, stealing secret
glances whilst sipping on cold coffees, fully aware of
our mutual attraction but yet so unaware of what was to
come. The next day, we met again. And again the next
day, and the next and almost every day after that. The
next month, he made me mixed CD’s, bought me books
to fuel my love of reading and even gave me a promise
ring. Yes, a ring! And almost four years after our first
meeting on November 13 at the AmCham Ball, my
confidante, travel companion and boyfriend became my
husband and forever best friend. And six years later in
November of 2010, we made us a family… and the rest
as they say, is history.
Had you told me that day some 17 or so years ago, that
this young man I’d just met at an AmCham Ball that I
didn’t even want to go to would one day get down on
a knee and ask me to marry him just two months after
our fateful meeting, I would have laughed in your face.
It’s crazy looking back on how it all started, and I truly
think that I hadn’t gone to that momentous AmCham
Ball, I would never have met Mo, had our two beautiful
children and been this happy.
" Since the day Mo and I met, we have never deliberately
missed an AmCham Ball. We love getting dressed
I love our love story up, soaking in the magic of the night and of course,
because it was meant reminiscing about how we met. To this day, I get
to be all along, and I butterflies in my tummy every time I tell this story
have AmCham South to our fellow AmCham Ball guests, my heart swelling
China to thank for with pride as I describe how AmCham is still a huge,
my very own ‘magical special part of our lives. Little did we know back then
moment.’ that being placed on the same table by the wonderful
people at AmCham (thanks to matchmaker Harley and
" his ever-so-amazing team) would in fact be the start of
forever. But it was. And I love that.
