ivities this year included the ‘Help the Kids’
Charity Concert and donations, as well as the
organization of a charity delegation to provide free
on-site medical checkups and consultation to the
villagers.
AmCham South China’s collection efforts have
resulted in donation of 5,172,000 RMB in cash and
in-kind donation of 12,945,811 RMB from 2010 to
2020. All donations were used to save the lives of
orphaned children in need of immediate life-saving
surgery, and to help villages combat poverty. The
Chamber’s assistance and investments have raise
four villages above the poverty line, including
Meitang Village of Meizhou City; Zhangdongkeng
Village of Paitan County in Zengceng Changyuan
Village of Meizhou City, Wuxing Village of
Meizhou City.
The philanthropic program has been wildly
successful. Ten years has seen a drastic change
in Meizhou’s economic and social development.
The local government has been working on a fish
breeding base, sweet potato, passion fruit and
grape plantations, and other projects that help
boost local economy with charity funds provided
by AmCham members. The local government built
a new primary school and countless new roads
in the villages. All in all, what used to be broken
shabby villages has now miraculously grown into a
modernized new town.
