AmCham DESIGN FOR
x
USCP SC SAFETY SERIES
Providing training seminars on product safety, the
Design for Safety Series has been co-hosted by
AmCham South China and United States Consumer
Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) for many years.
This year is no exception. The Sep 11-12 forums
and training sessions were conducted at Park Hyatt
Guangzhou. The training program began with an
interactive format that allowed feedback. Experienced
manufacturing and retail product safety professionals
from Walmart and Mattel also shared their insights as
panelists. Day two was meant for product designers,
manufacturers, and testing professionals who deal
with consumer products sold in the U.S. and the EU.
Government and industry experts discussed key
mechanical safety requirements, common mistakes,
and areas in need of more careful consideration in safe
product design.
USCPSC is charged with protecting the public from
unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with
the use of the thousands of types of consumer products
under the agency's jurisdiction. USCPSC is committed
to protecting consumers and families from products
that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical
hazard. USCPSC’s work to ensure the safety of consumer
products - such as toys, cribs, power tools, cigarette
lighters, and household chemicals - contributed to a
decline in the rate of deaths and injuries associated with
consumer products over the past 40 years.■
