On August 10th, AmCham President Harley Seyedin and Mr. Da- 29
vid Buxbaum, AmCham Board of Governors warmly welcomed Mr.
Darrel Ching, the newly assigned Principal Commercial Officer of
the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou. In the meeting, Mr. Ch-
ing outlined his priority tasks for his new position. Mr. Buxbaum
suggested education as an area for possible closer collaboration.
All three gentlemen expressed optimism for close collaboration be-
tween the Consulate and the Chamber moving forward.
The 19th Anniversary Celebration of Hong Kong’s
Return to China
On July 1st, more than 500 hundred guests from both Hong Kong
and Guangzhou converged at Grand Hyatt Guangzhou to attend a
cocktail party organized by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office
in Guangdong on August 3rd to celebrate the 19th anniversary of
Hong Kong’s return to China. Presiding over celebrations were Mr.
Deng Jiaxi, Chairman of Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in
Guangdong and Mr. Liao Jingshan, Director General of Hong Kong
and Macao Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong
Province.
AmCham Received Leaders from Greenland Group
On August 5th, Mr. Tony Zhao, General Manager of Greenland
Group, paid a visit to the AmCham office and had a brief meeting
with AmCham President Harley Seyedin. Mr, Zhao introduced his
company’s plan for creating a comprehensive, high-end area for both
office use as well as entertainment around the Guangzhou Baiyun
International Airport and encouraged the active participation of Am-
Cham members in the project.
AmCham President Dr. Harley Seyedin Met with the
Chairman of PayEco
On August 12th, Mr. Li Luogen, Chairman of PayEco, met with Am-
Cham President Harley Seyedin to discuss ways on how PayEco
could work with AmCham’s member companies. AmCham President
Harley Seyedin cited research results in AmCham’s annual White
Paper indicating that AmCham’s member companies in South China
had been performing quite well, a tremendous business opportunity
for PayEco.
