On January 11, AmCham president Harley Seyedin attended the
13th Spring Festival Conference of Guangdong General Chamber
of Commerce. The event was held at Dongfang Hotel, Guangzhou.
More than 1500 people participated in this conference. Among
them were representatives of the political, commercial, academic
elite. In addition to an award ceremony for outstanding
commercial leaders in Guangdong, the conference also dazzled
the participants with wonderful performances and tasty local
delicacies.
Opening Ceremony of Haizhu Stone
On January 14, AmCham president Harley Seyedin, along
with VIPs from the commercial sector attended the unveiling
ceremony of the Haizhu Stone at Canton View Bay. A 101-year
old Sangharajas and his team, which included a 95-year old
deputy Sangharajas from Sri Lanka, performed the ceremony.
Zhiyao, abbot of a Buddhist Temple, prayed for the wellbeing
of the Cantonese people. According to Mr. Jing Zhijun, CEO of
Guangzhou Jingxing Property Group and developer of Canton
Bay View, the Haizhu Stone is a symbol of both Cantonese
culture and history. The stone is expected to become a new scenic
attraction for Guangzhou.
Meeting with Leaders of Zhongshan Bureau
of Commerce
On January 25, AmCham president Harley met with Deputy
Director Xie Li and his team of the Zhongshan Bureau of
Commerce. After both sides exchanged updates on their
current situation, AmCham South China was invited to visit
and participate in the Zhongshan Trade and Investment Fair on
March 23. It is expected that the Zhongshan event will create
further business opportunities for our corporate members.
Conference of Guangzhou Open Economy
On February 19, AmCham President Harley Seyedin was invited
to participate in the Conference of Guangzhou Open Economy,
organized by Guangzhou Municipal Board for International
Investment. During this conference, Harley shared his views on
economic development and investment promotion as set against
the strategic background of New Normal and One Belt One Road.
Mr. Cai Chaolin, vice mayor of Guangzhou, and a host of experts,
scholars and entrepreneurs also attended this conference.
