Charity Concert
AmCham South China hosted a charity concert on July 22 with performances
by Mark Obama and the Guangzhou Soul Project with Martin Fleischer.
The intercultural concert began at the Guangzhou Opera House with AmCham
President Dr. Harley Seyedin, Dr. Jasmine Gong, and David Buxhaum delivering
their welcome speeches. Then in the evening, guests in attendance watched a piano
concert from Mr. Obama and a jazz performance from the Guangzhou Soul Project.
Mr. Obama Ndesanjo is an American pianist, composer, writer, artist, and
businessman. He has done impressive work to inspire orphans by bringing them art
pieces, and recently received an Honorary Image Ambassadorship from the Chinese
government. Additionally, he serves as the Image Ambassador for the Special Olympics
and is a part of the United Nations Committee on Combating Desertification.
The Guangzhou Soul Project performed a progressive jazz genre that separates
itself from mainstream jazz and pop culture. Mr. Martin Fleischer, also known as
the “swinging diplomat,” founded the project to revive jazz hits from the 60s and
70s, when soul-jazz and jazz-rock rhythms were at their peak.
