Explore L.A.
Upcoming Spring Events
S pring represents the beginning of a new year. It is time for people to pick up
some new habits or do something they’ve always wanted to do. The events listed
below can give you a sneak peak of some of the things you could try out this year in
Los Angeles!
Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon this year starts on
March 19 at Dodger Stadium and finishes at Ocean & California Avenues,
Santa Monica. Every year, more than 23,000 runners and wheelchair
racers take to the streets for this 26-mile slog through the city. But it’s not a
typical marathon: this being LA, the route is dotted with cheerleaders, and
neighborhoods from Boyle Heights to Downtown LA celebrate with street
performances. The Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon's Stadium
to the Sea course takes runners from Dodger Stadium across Los Angeles to a
scenic finish just steps from the Santa Monica Pier. Entertainment planned for
the 26.2-mile course includes 50 bands, 400+ cheerleaders, 6 entertainment
centers and 90 charity cheer zones.
CicLAviaThe term (Spanish for "bike way”) can also be used to describe
a temporary closing of L.A.'s streets. The event from March 26 to June
11—inspired by the first Ciclovías in Bogotá, Colombia—welcomes bikes,
tricycles, skateboards, strollers and smiles to ride a rotating cast of car-free
routes. While most rides center around Downtown, past events have taken
the event to Wilshire Boulevard, Venice and South L.A. Wherever it is, expect
music, street performances and food trucks, as well as general whimsy and
shenanigans. Shop owners and restaurants along the CicLAvia route will
also open their doors. It goes without saying that you should bike or take the
Metro to your desired spot along the route.
LA Art District The Natural History Museum, where First Fridays offer dinosaurs
and DJs. The first Friday of every month from February through June plays
host to a KCRW-presented evening of music, allowing visitors of all ages to
stay late for a night at the museum. Each month offers a different lineup of
musical guests and DJs, guided museum tours, and scientist-led talks.
