I Guangzhou Aerotropolis Development District under
the “Belt and Road” Strategy
This year, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
and Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China jointly released “Vision and
Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”
under the authorization of the State Council, also known as Belt and Road Initiative. The
strategy emphasizes on strengthening the functions of Guangzhou and Shanghai airports
as international hubs. The national strategic positioning shows that Guangzhou will play a
significant role in China’s new round of opening-up, and become an international strategic
functional platform.
