8 White Paper on the Business Environment in China
To accommodate fluctuating sample sizes, for the past few years we have report-
ed reinvestment figures normalized to 100 companies as a primary year-on-year
comparisons. The figure was calculated as the products of the mean of each category
range and the percentage of total respondents indicating that category, except in the
case of the largest (US$250 million or more) category, for which the minimum value is
used.
Noticeably we found that in 2018 reinvestment in China would be expected to
rise by nearly 12% with an estimated reinvestment of US$14 billion among all
surveyed enterprises. This showed that the surveyed enterprises are optimistic about
the prospect of reinvesting in China in 2018.
