To reach these goals in the increasingly overcrowded PRD
region, the Guangdong provincial government recently allocat-
ed more than 672 billion yuan (US$109.75 billion) to develop
rural areas in the province over the next five years. The funds are
to specifically focus on infrastructure projects, including a num-
ber of new links planned to better connect the greater PRD and
integrate it with the pan-PRD area.

Major ongoing infrastructure developments include:
