2009 Special Report Briefing and "The Temptations of Modern Finance" Economics Seminar
2009 Special Report on the “State of Business in South China” and “The Temptations of Modern Finance” economics seminar was held on March 4 at the Shangri-la Shenzhen. Almost 100 company members attended this event.
The 2009 Special Report was based on comprehensive study of 551 South China companies and released on March 3 in Guangzhou. Mr. Harley Seyedin, President of AmCham South China, gave an excellent presentation to our members on the Special Report, summarizing the latest facts on how the economic crisis is effecting the business environment in China. At “The Temptations of Modern Finance” seminar, Prof. David A. Westbrook from the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York shared his insight on U.S. financial crisis, its genesis, the regulatory response and potential impact on trade with all the attendees.
Prof. Westbrook made a critical analysis of Financial Crisis, including how to think about the financial regulation and how to conduct financial regulation going forward and so on…and also he shared some specific thoughts about responding to crisis. At the end of the seminar, there is a concluding thought was drawn, that is, financial policy is a deeply social enterprise, rather than a science, needing more communication. Markets are global, so they need to be built up together!
