A Farewell to U.S. Consuls and AmCham Guangzhou Ice-Breaking Cocktail Party

On July 11^th, 2007, The American Chamber of Commerce in South China bid adieu to U.S. Consuls James Turner, Robert Murphy and Randy Townsend who will be leaving Guangzhou this summer for new adventures.

U.S. Consul General Robert Goldberg, Italian Consul General Giovanni Russo, Mrs. Gloria Russo, Sectary General Zhao Rong of The Association of Promotion for Guangdong Economy & Investment, Vice Director Lin Qiang of Guangdong Board of Investment Promotion, Director Tang Jinhua of Bureau of Agriculture of Guangzhou Municipality and more than 20 U.S. Consulate staff and their spouses attended and were joined by AmCham President Harley Seyedin, 3 AmCham Governors and more than 150 members.

James Turner, has spent four years in Guangzhou, is Chief of Economic and Political Sections at the Consulate. Robert Murphy, in addition to leading the Foreign Commercial Service’s presence in Guangzhou, has been honorary AmCham Governor. Randy Townsend, Manager of the immigrant Visa Section, has supported the Visa Program of AmCham for years. All of these three consuls are close friends of the Chamber and have made great contribution to U.S.-China economic and immigration issues.

On this event, some of the honorable VIP guests indicated their expression of the three consuls. Moreover, Sectary General Zhao Rong, Director Tang Jinhua, AmCham President Harley Seyedin and Governor Tim Wen gave some precious gifts to James, Robert and Randy on behalf of their organizations.

In addition to the farewell, this evening is also the AmCham Guangzhou Ice-Breaking Cocktail Party to introduce our newly joined 70 members in Guangzhou to this ever-growing Chamber family! One of our new member, Shoe Group, generously sponsored the lucky draw—a pair of lady’s shoes with Swarovski crystal for the winner.
