China's Energy Future--Energy South China Conference 2007

In cooperation with the Guangzhou People’s Municipal Government, PennWell Corporation and the Independent Power Producer’s Forum, The American Chamber of Commerce in South China on September 18^th kicked off the first-ever international energy conference in China to focus on efficiency, clean generation and environmental preservation.

This 2-day long by-invitation-only conference covered generation, transmission & distribution, oil & gas and the strategies and technologies that will accomplish China’s energy goals in the cleanest, most environmentally-friendly way. More than 300 international and Chinese leaders participated, including Standing Vice Mayor Wu Yimin of Guangzhou, U.S. Consul General Robert Goldberg, IPPF Chairman Colin Tam and the top echelons of regional and global energy companies.

Day one covered the Chinese opinion, with presentations from more than 7 provinces as well as the NDRC on expectations, targets and projects, all with the aim of laying a foundation of dialogue and friendship across languages, borders and time zones between the collected business and government leaders.

Day two included a half-day forum on energy efficiency best practices and recent advances, followed by presentations by members of the global business and finance community. Finally, AmCham hosted a matchmaking session, playing host to both Chinese provinces, cities and companies as well as their international counterparts—promoting cross-investment between the assembled interests.
