Celebrating the 232nd American Independence Day

Organized by the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou, the Celebration Reception of the 232^nd American Independence Day was held at the Grand Hyatt Guangzhou on June 27 2008 and Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on July 2, 2008. More than 300 guests were invited to participate in this annual celebration reception, including Board of Governors, members and staffs of the American Chamber of Commerce of South China, leaders from Guangdong Provincial and Guangzhou Municipality Government, as well as officers and local staff of the Consulate General.

As the close working partner of the U.S. Consulate General, the American Chamber of Commerce in South China provided fully support to this event with five generous sponsors from our corporate members, including Amway (China) Co., Ltd., Coors Beer & Beverages (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, Guangzhou Pepsi-Cola Beverage Co., Ltd., UPS and Green Tree Financial Group, Inc.

“I’d like to express our sincere thanks all the guests for your attendance of our Independence Day Celebration! Special thanks to AmCham South China President Harley Seyedin, who makes great contribution to this event.” said U.S. Consul General Robert Goldberg, “On June 22, we organized the Charity Walk-a-Thon to raise fund for people in affective area in the Sichuan Earthquake. American people would like to do what we can to help the friendly Chinese people. Wish the friendship between U.S. and China lasts forever!”

“China is the largest developing country in the world; while the U.S. is the largest developed country.” said Secretary General of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government Xu Shangbin, “The two countries are close partners, and great development of the bilateral relations will benefit not only global economy but also peoples of the two countries.”

It is a celebration of America for families and friends with traditional American food like hot dogs and hamburgers, barbeque, fried chicken wings, popcom, peanuts, home-make cookies and other snacks. With American music of country, pop, rock and roll as well as R&B, all the guests had a wonderful time during the celebration!

In particular, it is also the first time for the Consulate General to host the celebration reception in another city in consular region—Nanning, Capital City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Leaders from local government and AmCham members located in Guangxi attended the Guangxi Session of Celebration.

It is a fruitful year for the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou and the American Chamber of Commerce in South China. Sincerely wish all our members and friends from the U.S., China as well as other regions allover the world enjoy the celebration and the holiday!
