On August 5 in Guangzhou and August 7 in Shenzhen, AmCham South China’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee met for a afternoon sessions. Between the two meetings, nearly 200 AmCham members and friends came to listen, discuss and share tips with each other.

Speaking at both events was Mr. Vincent C.Y. Kong, Technical Manager of Global Products and Services Development, System and Service Certification of SGS. SGS is one of the world’s leading inspection and verification companies and has over 50,000 employees in 1,000 offices worldwide.

Mr. Kong highlighted the importance of consistency and of vigilance, touching on sustainability, industry best practices, local issues, accountability requirements, reporting, auditing, certification and compliance.

In closing, Mr. Kong quoted Williom Clay Ford, Jr. of the Ford Motor Company: “There is a difference between a good company and a great company. A good company offers excellent products and services. A great company offers excellent products and services but also strives to make the world a better place.”

This sentiment, underscoring the afternoon’s discussions, no doubt steeled the resolve of every attendee.
