AmCham South China and Hewitt Present 2007 Guangzhou/Shenzhen Comp & Benefits Study Results

Compensation has fast evolved as a key issue for talent management in South China. Building a competitive edge is no longer confined only to paying top dollar—organizations have now begun to rethink their strategies in search of competitive advantages through their approach to compensation, viewing the whole package rather than simply a number.

On November 6th, 2007, AmCham South China hosted a Hewitt presentation on the results of their annual Guangzhou/Shenzhen Compensation & Benefits Study, attracting more than 200 AmCham Members. General Manager of Hewitt Associates’ Hong Kong Operations Ms. Stella Hou analyzed the 2007 Chinese economics and market overview focusing on China trends and talent movement. Mr. Hugh Yu, Head of Talent and Organization Analytical Consulting, introduced the 2007 Hewitt local Guangzhou/Shenzhen Study key findings, including CPI impact on salary increases, turnover analysis, attrition drivers analysis, cash compensation analysis and trends, benefits analysis and trends and other hot benefit practices.

“Chinese economic growth will stabilize somewhat, but will remain high.” said Mr. Yu, “2007 GDP increase predicted at 11.5%, CPI at 4.6%. Gradual tightening of credit to slow investment and inflation is likely, and softer external demand and policy curbs have pulled growth down gradually.”
