2008 AmCham U.S. Consulate Briefing

On April 3, AmCham South China hosted a grand banquet to introduce the top-ranking team of the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou to members at the Hyatt Regency Dongguan. It is the first annual Consulate Briefing for AmCham members and is the first time to be held in Dongguan City, and more than 200 guests came to attend this great event.

U.S. Consul General Robert Goldberg and his consular team was first to be invited by AmCham to this city to meet our members as well as government leaders from Dongguan Municipality and Dongguan City Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (DGAEFI). Consul General Goldberg, along with Mike Jacobsen (Chief Consular Section and Consulate Manager), Steve Lang (Chief, Economic/Political Section), John Stremel (Management Officer), Ireas Cook (Principal Officer, Commercial Section), Conrad Wong (Intellectual Property Right Officer) Joani Dong (Director, Agriculture Trade Office), Darcy Zotter (Press and Culture Consul), Gary Watson (Regional Security Officer) and other representatives attended this banquet.

After a delicious buffet dinner and drinks, Consul General Goldberg spoke on the consulate’s presence in South China, and each official gave a brief presentation on his/her departments’ priorities and future plans. The platform was opened to questions from members and guests, with a variety of topics being explained and discussed. Individuals were encouraged to continue dialogue in following communications.

As regards to Chinese government leaders and guests, Mr. Zhu Guoji, Dongguan Commission of CPPCC, Ms. Chen Xiaohui, Vice Director of Dogguan Songshan Lake Sci.&Tech. Industry park Administrative Committee and nearly 40 members of DGAEFI participated in this event.
