Planning Commission (NHFPC), Mead Johnson initiated the project by providing nearly 150,000
cans of phenylalanine-free formula from 2009-2014 to help 500 impoverished children with PKU in
central and western China live more normal and healthy lives.
This project is the first large-scale PKU program in China to explore a new treatment-management
model. Furthermore, the project has been a voice to raise awareness of PKU and other rare diseases
in both government and society, thus helping shape a positive national subsidy policy.
In 2016, together with the NHFPC, MJN China will initiate the next three-year phase of the PKU Hope Blossoms into Care for Children
subsidy program. We’ll continue to support the healthy growth and development of these children with PKU
through a combination love and special nutritional expertise.
2015-2018 Premature Birth Intervention Program
In 2015, Mead Johnson joined the “Intervention in Premature Births” research project launched by
NHFPC. Through this program, we actively socialize information regarding the risks of early births
to promote social awareness and attention, and to reduce the incidence of prematurity. Additionally,
we trained medical workers to help improve the quality of care for premature infants. Finally, we
used various channels to expand the nursing knowledge of family members to enable premature
infants to receive the best of care at home and to grow up healthy.
2006-2015 Trip of Love, maternal and child care in poor areas Premature Birth Intervention Program
In 2006, working together with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation to nourish children for
their best start in life, MJN began the Trip of Love program.
Mead Johnson proposed the central feature of the Trip of Love – “knowledge-driven poverty Trip of Love, maternal and child care in
alleviation” – and began guiding groups of healthcare professionals on visits to Yunfu, Conghua, poor areas
Baise, Zhenghe, Qianjiang, Longde, Yulong, and Jixi. These professionals explored a path of
sustainable development and innovation for maternal and child care in poor areas. In place for American Chamber of Commerce in South
more than nine years, the Trip of Love has brought more than 10 million yuan worth of nutritional China Charities
products to those poverty-stricken regions, provided professional training to thousands of local
healthcare workers, and granted over 10,000 mothers and children the opportunity to benefit from
improved concepts of nutrition and health.
2011-2016 American Chamber of Commerce in South China
Charities
Working together, the American Chamber of Commerce in South China and the Guangzhou
Municipal People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries hosted a series of events to
increase awareness of and raise funds for a number of worthwhile charities. These funds – including
more than 2 million yuan contributed by MJN China – help provide surgery for gravely ill orphans
at the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, relieve poverty in several impoverished
areas of the Guangdong and Guizhou provinces, and support a medical team from Guangzhou
Women and Children’s Medical Center which gives free diagnosis and treatment to local villagers.
In addition to donating funds, MJN personnel have accompanied the project team on visits to
underprivileged families in both areas.
In addition to long-term care for mothers, children, and PKU families in poor areas, MJN China
has quickly responded to natural disasters and social emergencies, reaching out in times of need.
Mead Johnson acts from a strong sense of social responsibility, sparing no loving deed or donation
to promote the public welfare. We recognize the importance of giving back to our communities, and
with each act of charity, we help one more child embrace the future with its infinite possibilities.
