Zhuang Autonomous
Guangxi Region – abbreviated
as Gui – is situated in southwest China, facing
Vietnam across the Beibu Gulf. The province
is not only involved in economic development
opportunities in Southern China but is also
connected to ASEAN (the Association of Southeast
Asian Nation) countries as well as being part
of the Western Region Development Program.

The province has a total area of 238,600km

and population of 50.3 million in 2023 . The
Zhuang people, the largest minority group in
China, accounts for around 31.4% of the total

population . In 2023, Guangxi’s GDP rose by 4.1%
YoY to top RMB2.7 trillion (US$386 billion). The
region’s new industrial products such as lithium- development plan for Guangxi’s digital economy

by 15.5 times compared to the previous year, the
production of wind turbines increased by 7.1%
YoY and the production of ultra white glass for
solar energy industry increased by 47.3% YoY,
respectively. The key economic hub, Beibu Gulf
(contains Nanning, Beihai, Fangchenggang and
Qinzhou), reached 5.1% YoY economic growth
and Xijiang Economic Belt (contains Liuzhou,
Guilin, Wuzhou, Guigang, Yulin, Hezhou and
Laibin) saw a growth of 3.1% YoY during the same

period . In H1 2024, region’s GDP saw steady
growth of 3.6% YoY, with industrial segment
being the main driver. 65

Market highlights
In recent years, Guangxi has actively pursued
opportunities through cross-regional industrial
collaborations to target the ASEAN market . The

region has introduced more than 160 leading
enterprises since 2021. It has involved itself in
cross-regional industrial division and coordination
with the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the GBA.
Such efforts have effectively strengthened and
supplemented regional industrial chains in sectors
such as new energy vehicles, power batteries and
fine chemicals and accelerated the development of
new quality productive forces.
Meanwhile, Guangxi has released a batch
of documents in recent years – such as the
and the action plan for speeding up 5G industrial
development in Guangxi – to boost ASEAN-related
information infrastructure construction and build
