Reasons for Establishing Business Operation in South China
More than half of the respondents have chosen South China mainly because of the poten-
tial for market growth. This explains why more than 70% of the respondents focus their
business development in South China on local markets. Although the overall economic develop-
ment in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in recent years is not as good as previous years, the prox-
imity of these regions remains as one of the important reasons for the establishment of enterprises
in China, followed by better infrastructure in the area, and advantages of either human resources
or transport and logistics. The survey results are generally the same as in previous years, but the
respondents with human resources advantages as a reason for establishment of businesses in
Southern China dropped by nearly 10% over the same period of 2016. This shows that the attrac-
tiveness of human resources in the region needs careful attention.
