Dealing with Strikes and Wage Demands in China

15:00-17:30, Thursday, July 22

China Merchant Hall, Nanhai Hotel, Shenzhen

FREE OF CHARGE

AMCHAM MEMBER PRIORITY

·        What should companies do if their premises are visited by union officials?

·        Should companies reconsider their union avoidance strategies?

·        Will collective bargaining become the norm in private companies?

·        What measures can companies take to reduce the chance of a strike?

·        What can companies do if a strike occurs at their company?

The recent outbreak of labor unrest all over China, but particularly in Guangdong province, has made front-page headlines around the world. The question now facing companies is, what should companies now do in the face of a workforce that may become much more aggressive in asserting its rights and making demands for higher wages?

In order to help companies prepare for this challenge, Jonathan Isaacs from Baker & McKenzie will give a presentation on and answer any audience questions on the following issues: what companies can do if a strike or other labor disturbance occurs, whether companies should rethink their current strategy for dealing with unions, how to handle collective bargaining demands, and what the options are for dealing with increasing labor costs.

See you all there!

With best regards,
