Video Screening – Framework for Democracy Series: The News Media; Congress I.  Time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Weekly Forum    Thu Nguyen, Officer, American Consulate in Guangzhou on Sixth Amendment – Trial by jury and other rights of the accused. The discussion will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

 

June 2 American Film Night – John Letvin and his wife will introduce the film at 6:45 p.m. and show the film at 7:00 p.m.  Following the showing of the film, the host will lead the participants in a discussion of the film's themes. 

Summary of movie: Based on the true story of the ill-fated 13th Apollo mission bound for the moon. Astronauts Lovell, Haise and Swigert were scheduled to fly Apollo 14, but are moved up to 13. It's 1970, and America have already achieved their lunar landing goal, so there's little interest in this "routine" flight.. until that is, things go very wrong, and prospects of a safe return fade.

Weekly Forum Brian Ferinden, Officer, American Consulate in Guangzhou on Eighth Amendment – Prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. The discussion will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

 

June 16 American Film Night – Richard Polney introduce the film at 6:45 p.m. and show the film at 7:00 p.m.  Following the showing of the film, the host will lead the participants in a discussion of the film's themes. 

 

Summary of movie: A clarinet player who also runs a health food store is frozen and brought back in the future by anti-government radicals in order to assist them in their attempts to overthrow an oppressive government. When he goes off on his own, he begins to explore this brave new world that has Orgasmatron booths to replace sex and confessional robots.
