Dear Members and Friends,

On behalf the American Chamber of Commerce in South China, I am very delighted to invite you to officially welcome U.S. Consul General Robert Goldberg to Shenzhen, as well as take part in AmCham South China’s annual U.S. Consulate Briefing. You will also be joining the highest ranking officials from the U.S. Consulate Guangzhou and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. This gala welcome dinner will take place at the InterContinental Hotel Shenzhen on April 25, 2007.

Mr. Robert Goldberg assumed his duties as U.S. Consul General in Guangzhou, China on August 22, 2006. Previously, Mr. Goldberg had been Deputy Director and then Director of the State Department's Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs. He has also served as the Deputy Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs in the State Department's Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs (2001-2003), as Deputy Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing (1996-1999) and as a staff member in the East Asia and Pacific Bureau of the State Department responsible for U.S. policies in the ASEAN Regional Forum and the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum (1994-1996). Mr. Goldberg's other assignments in the State Department have included tours in India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Mr. Goldberg comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and impressive experience on China. We have already been working closely with our new Consul General and are extremely fortunate to have him with us for the next several years!

We are very fortunate to have Consul General Goldberg and the United States Consulate General Guangzhou join Our Chamber for its annual U.S. Consulate Briefing in Shenzhen. Please join us to welcome Consul General Robert Goldberg and senior representatives from the Consular, Political and Economic, and Commercial sections, the Agricultural Trade Office and the Regional Security Office as they give us presentations on the current status of U.S.-China Relations and its effect on American business interests.
