My Dear Friends,

With the recent changes to China’s Employment Contract Law regime, many companies will be facing a new employment landscape. Among the changes HR Managers must be aware of, diverse protections have been provided to employees against discrimination, sexual harassment and leave benefits. It is our responsibility as responsible corporate citizens to not only honor these protections, but understand their spirit in full.

Mr. Jonathan Issacs from Baker & McKenzie will speak at our first committee meeting in Shenzhen for 2008, and will cover not only what the changes are, but also what we need to do to accommodate them, such as:

  • Amend policies on annual leave
  • Reexamine recruitment policies, application materials and hiring procedures
  • Institute procedures for handling allegations of harassment
  • Build systematic procedures for documenting potential issues

These are undeniably important issues for us as a community to acknowledge and address, and so I sincerely hope to see everyone there.

Most Sincerely,

Harley Seyedin
