Dear Members,

I’m pleased to invite you to attend the HKUST Shenzhen MBA Program Info Session and Sample Class on Mar14in Shenzhen and on Mar21 inGuangzhou.

HKUST Shenzhen MBA Program will also offer a sample class on the event day:      Horizontal Merges. Many firms have been involved in mergers and acquisitions (M&A). For example, in 2010, there were over 21,000 merger deals announced globally, with more than USD1.9 trillion in total volume (China’s 2009 GDP was USD4.985 trillion). A significant growth in M&A in Asia Pacific was also reported. In this sample class, we will focus on horizontal mergers between firms in the same industry or related industries. We will discuss some key motivations for firms to conduct horizontal mergers and, more importantly, how mergers will affect firms’ decisions in future market competition. We will also have some preliminary discussions on the anti-trust (anti-monopoly) law or regulations.

With best regards,
