AmCham Members: RMB 100 million donated is not where we should stop

AmCham South China urges members to continue to give as member donations surpass RMB 100 million for the Sichuan earthquake response.

To ensure the quickest possible response, we encourage members to give directly to charitable organizations with whom they have already worked in the past.

We must continue to play our role in the ongoing relief effort.

Dear Members,

We have emphatically encouraged timely and effective support for the people of Wenchuan. To ensure funds are received as fast as possible we have also encouraged you to make your contributions directly to charitable organizations with whom you have already worked in the past. So far cash donations made by AmCham South China members exceed RMB 100 million. We are grateful for this level of response and continue to encourage our members to give as much as possible.

This extraordinary, continuing support from our community and from across China, in concert with the decisive steps already being taken by the Chinese government, will help to bring the immediate situation to a terminal phase and help to begin the process of rebuilding, caring for the wounded, and mending both broken limbs and broken lives.

So thank you. Although many of you have chosen that your efforts will never be announced to the public, in pursuit of a blind, anonymous and profound charity of your own, we feel it is important for the members of AmCham South China to know of that which our community is made.

Finally, I would include a partial list of those who have made public contributions to the RMB 100 million amount:

  • A.O. Smith Electrical Products
  • Amway
  • BYD Company Limited
  • Coca-Cola
  • GE
  • Microsoft
  • Nike
  • Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings) Ltd
  • P&G
  • R&F Property

Please inform us of how you are supporting this nation-wide disaster relief effort, or please ask us for guidance on how you and your company can best play a role in it. Ms. Jenny Lee is coordinating this effort at the Chamber office, and can be reached by:
